Stephen Powis Salary: Professor Stephen H. Powis is the National Medical Director of the National Health Service (NHS) of England, appointed to replace Sir Bruce Keogh at the beginning of 2018. In 1997 he joined the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, becoming the medical director of the trust in 2006, and the chief clinical information officer in 2016. He is also professor of kidney medicine at University College London.
At the end of 2017, he left Royal Free to become NHS England’s medical director, a role he took over in early 2018. During this time, Powis participated in a Royal Free collaboration with Google Deepmind to share information. His primary clinical interest is a renal transposition.
In the spring of 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, he often spoke on the Government Team for every day in a series of briefings. In the past he served as editor-in-chief and editor-in-chief of BMJ representatives.
